On the oikos Sustainability Award

The oikos Sustainability Award honors the best Master thesis written on sustainability-related issues at the University of St. Gallen with 3000 CHF. This prize, presented to the laureate on Graduation Day in March, is the only HSG award officially granted by a student organization.

 

We are looking for academically outstanding Master theses in the areas of Economics, Finance, International Affairs, Law, and Management which deal with the topic of Sustainability in their respective fields or in an interdisciplinary manner. Submitted theses should display an awareness not only for the economic, but also for the ecological and social dimensions of sustainability.

 

An interdisciplinary Jury, consisting of experts in the field of Sustainability, chooses the winner thesis.

 

The selection process is based on the following criteria:

• The Master's Thesis deals with a topical and relevant issue in the field of sustainaility.
• The research question and/or method shows originality and innovation.
• The approach involves critical thinking.
• The author manages to integrate the three dimensions of sustainability (environmental, social and economic sustainability) into his/her work.
• The author manages to discuss his/her contribution to the current debate on sustainability.

• The Master's Thesis has received a grade of 5,5 or better.
