Model WTO 2009 Student Participant Application Procedure

The Model WTO is an international event open to students from all universities.

Requirements

 

To apply for the Model WTO, please send us your CV, a motivation letter (be concise), a proof of identity (any kind of ID) and the application form at the following address: application@dont-want-spam.modelwto.org.

You can also send your application through post: Model WTO 2008, c/o oikos International, Tigerbergstrasse 2, 9000 St. Gallen, Switzerland.

If you are applying as a Head Delegate (delegation leader), you are advised to mention any leadership skill/experience you may have in your CV / Motivation Letter.

Participation fee

 

To participate in the oikos Model WTO you have to pay a participation fee of 200 CHF (135 EUR). 

For HSG students:

Normal fee: 200

HSG + 1 Student: 150

HSG + 2 Studenten: 100
HSG + 3 Studenten: 100
HSG + 4 Studenten: 100

What is included in the participation fee?

• 4 nights accomodation in St. Gallen (from Sunday to Wednesday)
• 1 night accomodation in Geneva (Thursday)
• Transports related to the Model WTO
• Lunch, dinner, coffee & snacks from Monday night to Friday night

 

What is NOT included?

• Travel expenses from your home country to St. Gallen and back home from Geneva
• Meals before and after the Model WTO
• Friday night in Geneva (optional) (we can help you to find accomodation, please mark it in the application form)
• Any kind of insurance

How much money do you need in addition?

 

• Most of the money you need will be for travelling to and from Switzerland. Of course, this depends on the country you are coming from. Have a look at the travel guide to get useful tips for cheap travelling to and from Switzerland
• Visa fee
• Some extra money for souvenirs or whatever you want to buy. There will be not much time to spend money, but you should bring some additional money.
• One additional night in the Geneva Youth Hostel will cost 25 CHF.
• Going out in Switzerland is not cheap: A small beer or coke costs about 4-5 CHF, entry fee in a night club is about 10-15 CHF. (The night events in St. Gallen are included in the participation fee!) (1 EUR = 1.60 CHF)

 

How to bring the money?

You can bring foreign cash and change it in St. Gallen or change some money at home. Normally, changing in Switzerland will be cheaper, depending on the currency you will change. Traveller cheques and credit cards are accepted in change offices. There are a lot of ATMs which accept EC/Maestro-cards and all major credit cards.

 

 Sponsoring

You might be able to receive financial support from your university or other institutions in your country. In past years, many participants were able to raise money through those channels. Please check out all possibilities. oikos gladly provides recommendation letters to support your claims.
